The Electroweak Phase Transition in a Magnetic Field

چکیده

We study the finite temperature electroweak phase transition in an external hypercharge U(1) magnetic field HY , using lattice Monte Carlo simulations. For sufficiently small fields, HY /T 2 <∼ 0.3, the magnetic field makes the first order transition stronger, but it still turns into a crossover for Higgs massesmH <∼ 80 GeV. For larger fields, we observe a mixed phase analogous to a type I superconductor, where a single macroscopic tube of the symmetric phase, parallel to HY , penetrates through the broken phase. For the magnetic fields and Higgs masses studied, we did not see indications of the expected Ambjørn-Olesen phase, which should be similar to a type II superconductor. Effect of strong magnetic field on the first-order electroweak phase transition

The broken-symmetry electroweak vacuum is destabilized in the presence of a magnetic field stronger than a critical value. Such magnetic field may be generated in the phase transition and restore the symmetry inside the bubbles. A numerical calculation indicates that the first-order phase transition is delayed but may be completed for a sufficient low value of the Higgs mass unless the magnetic...

The Sphaleron in a Magnetic Field and Electroweak Baryogenesis

The presence of a primordial magnetic field in the early universe affects the dynamic of the electroweak phase transition enhancing its strength. This effect may enlarge the window for electroweak baryogenesis in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model or even resurrect the electroweak baryogenesis scenario in the standard model. We compute the sphaleron energy in the backgro...

On the Nature of the Magnetic Fields Generated During the Electroweak Phase Transition

In this Letter we reanalyse the question of the origin of magnetic fields during the electroweak phase transition. We show that their formation is intimately connected to some semiclassical configurations of the gauge fields, such as electroweak Z-strings and W -condensates. We describe the formation of these semiclassical configurations during a first order phase transition and argue that they...

Magnetic fields produced by phase transition bubbles in the electroweak phase transition.

The electroweak phase transition, if proceeding through nucleation and growth of bubbles, should generate large scale turbulent flow, which in turn generates magnetic turbulence and hence magnetic fields on the scale of turbulent flow. We discuss the seeding of this turbulent field by the motion of the dipole charge layers in the phase transition bubble walls, and estimate the strength of the p...

Ring Diagrams and Electroweak Phase Transition in a Magnetic Field

Electroweak phase transition in a magnetic field is investigated within the one-loop and ring diagram contributions to the effective potential in the minimal Standard Model. All fundamental fermions and bosons are included with their actual values of masses and the Higgs boson mass is considered in the range 75GeV ≤ mH ≤ 115GeV . The effective potential is real at sufficiently high temperature....
